Condom Catheters

Condom catheters are external urinary catheters that are worn like a condom. They collect urine as it drains out of your bladder and sends it to a collection bag strapped to your leg. They’re typically used by men who have urinary incontinence, that is, who cannot control their bladder.

Condom catheters are intended for male genitals but urinary problems are prone to female genitals, too. There are separate urinary catheters made for the comfort of the female genital.

Condom catheters are mostly made up of plastic, silicone, and PVC.

There are external urinary catheters and there are internal urinary catheters.

Condom catheters come under external urinary catheters.

The internal urinary catheters are used in hospitals where the patient is put on the bed and incapable of moving out. During certain internal surgeries at the spot of the genitals would lead to the use of internal urinary catheters. The internal urinary catheters involve tubes connected directly to the urethra.

On the other hand, external urinary catheters like condom catheters are simple and can be used anywhere like home or car traveling or personal flight traveling. External urinary catheters are noninvasive, unlike internal catheters that are treated and inserted into the body.

Wash your hands and penis using soap and warm water before attempting to put on a Condom Catheter.

Check the penis inside out if there is some irritation or itching that has been felt or observed. Check out for any other infections like open sores, too.

As the condom Catheter is intended to pass out leaking urine from the pubic area to the drained down package, there is an option to use sealant to seal the surface of the pubic area to prevent the passage of fluid.

Now place the condom over the tip of the penis and slowly unroll down to the penile base point, i.e, from penis open end to penis close end connecting to the body.

The condom is almost certain to contain an adhesive that needs to be given time without disturbance to get well attached to the penis skin surface.

Use a sheath holder which is known to be a tight-fitting object around the penis slightly loose.

Now connect the tubing on the collection bag to the condom.

Strap the collection bag below the knee for proper drainage to drain out urine.
