Jojoba oil is derived from the plant Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba plant), a shrub grown in Arizona, southern California, and northwestern Mexico. This oil has long shelf-life stability. It was used to treat wounds and sores. Jojoba is the oil that is extensively used for skin, hair beard products. Many beard grooming products such as beard oil, beard wax, beard balms contain jojoba oil as their carrier oils.

Jojoba oil contains omega 3 fatty acids called linolenic acids. It also contains other omega fatty acids such as oleic acid, linoleic acid. Other fatty acids include lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, pentadecanoic acid, etc.

Jojoba is a carrier oil that dilutes essential oils which in concentrated form might cause irritation. Carrier oil’s main function is to carry the benefits of essential oils into the skin. Jojoba oil is absorbed easily by the skin.

1. Antioxidant:

 Antioxidants prevent cellular damage from free radicals produced in the body due to various metabolic processes. Jojoba oil protects the skin, hair, and beard from free radicals formed due to sun rays.

2. Anti-bacterial and Antifungal:

It is due to the presence of Iodine in it, that keeps bacteria and fungi at bay. Due to its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, jojoba oil can be used for treating acne, skin lesions, etc.

3. Controls sebum:

Sebum is the natural oil secreted by our pores. When those natural oils are not sufficient for our hair, skin, and beard, jojoba oil acts as sebum due to its structure. It also prevents clogging of pores.

Beard tends to be dry in the end and is often found to have split ends due to it. Jojoba oil ensures proper nutrition and health to your beard. It also moisturizes the beard preventing any possible split ends.

How to use Jojoba Oil for a Beard?

You can directly apply jojoba oil to your beard. Take a few drops of jojoba oil in your fingers and massage it directly on the skin underneath your beard in circular motions till you feel your skin has absorbed the oil. Take a few more drops onto your palms and apply them to the rest of the beard length. Use a boar bristle brush to evenly spread the oil evenly to each beard strand and also to make sure that every beard strand is moisturized.

How much jojoba oil to use greatly depends on the length and thickness of your beard.

For stubble and short beard lengths, 1-2 drops of jojoba oil is sufficient, whereas a medium length beard needs 3-8 drops of oil and a long length beard requires at least 8-12 drops of jojoba oil for maximum coverage.

Alternatively, you can use any beard oil with jojoba oil or even make one at home yourself.

DIY Beard Oil With Jojoba Oil

Beard oils have essentially two components. The first one being essential oil and the second one being carrier oil. There are many essential oils and carrier oil, which you can use as alternatives if you don’t have the ones mentioned in this article. The key is to use the right combination of oils for your beard needs and also to mix them in the right ratios. Make sure that any beard oil with essential oil requires dilution.

 For this beard oil, we can use carrier oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, argan oil, etc

And for essential oils, we can use peppermint oil, vitamin E oil, lavender oil, etc.

Here is a list of ingredients and things required to make this beard oil

  • 15 ml of jojoba oil
  • 7-8 ml coconut oil
  • 7-8 ml of argan oil
  • 3 drops of peppermint oil
  • 5 drops of vitamin E oil
  • 3-5 droppers for each oil
  • A glass jar with 40-50ml capacity.

To make this oil, 

  • Add jojoba oil, coconut oil, and argan oil, one by one into the glass bottle properly. 
  • Add the peppermint essential oil and then vitamin E oil. You can also use vitamin E capsules for this.
  • Close the bottle and give it a good shake, so that all the oils are well mixed.
  • Use this only once a day in normal conditions or twice if you are living in extremely dry conditions.
